Skippy, created by actor John McCallum and film director Lee Robinson, was produced for the Nine Network from 1966 to 1968. It told the adventures of a young boy and his intelligent pet kangaroo (several kangaroos played the title role) in Waratah National Park, outside Sydney.

By the end of 1969, Skippy was reportedly screened in 80 countries - more than any other TV show in the world. It led to books, toys, a feature film called The Intruders (1969), and Skippy money-boxes in banks.

Another, short-lived series, The New Adventures of Skippy, was produced in 1992.
