Australia's Prime Ministers

Harold Holt first entered Federal Parliament in 1935 but resigned at the outbreak of WW2 to enlist in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF). He was recalled to Parliament five months later following the death of three Senior Ministers in an aircraft crash near Canberra in 1940. Holt held portfolios of Minister for Labour and National Service, Immigration and Treasurer. Following the resignation of Menzies in 1966 he became Leader of the Liberal Party and Prime Minister.
