Australia's Prime Ministers

James Scullin first served for a single term in the House of Representatives between 1910-1913 and then returned in 1922 and served for a further 27 years. Scullin became Prime Minister following the 1929 election and the defeat of the Bruce Government. During his term as PM, he held the portfolios for External Affairs, Industry and Treasury.

His parliamentary career coincided with the Great Depression, great turmoil within the Australian Labor Party, and a hostile Senate.
