As soon as the war is announced, volunteers inundate recruitment offices. Most of these recruits are sent to Egypt for training.

On 25 April 1915 Australian troops land on the Gallipoli peninsula and meet fierce resistance from Turkish troops.

A stalemate contines for the remainder of the year until the Allied troops evacuate in December. An elaborate deception system allows this evacuation to take place with minimal casualties.
