Synopsis
A popular children's film, based on the novel by Colin Theile, about a boy's friendship with a wild pelican and explores the right and wrong attitudes to the wilderness. The cast was led by Greg Rowe, 11 years old and previously untrained in acting. David Gulpilil played a supporting role as an Aboriginal youth who camps in the wildlife sanctuary and teaches 'Storm Boy' about the land, the sea and the Aboriginal people.
Background
Storm Boy won Best Film and won the Jury Prize at the 1977 AFI Awards. Cinematographer, Geoff Burton won Australian Cinematographers Society Awards, The Golden Tripod (best cinematography, feature film) and the 'Milli" (Cinematographer of the Year) for his work on Storm Boy.
