to celebrate the creation of the
National Film & Sound Archive

statutory authority
6:30 pm, TUESDAY 1 July 2008
In the wake of the hit feature 10 Canoes, director

collaborated with the Yolngu people of the
Arafura swamp to create 12 Canoes, an evolving
broadband website to showcase the stories, art
and environment of north-central Arnhem Land, as
well as new developments in their continuing, lively
culture. The website will be launched later this year.
The National Film & Sound Archive
of Australia presented the world premiere of
a unique adaptation of the new site as a work of
cinema to celebrate the creation of the NFSA as
a statutory authority on 1 July 2008. Rolf de Heer
and Elders of the Ramingining community, Arnhem
Land presented at the celebration. A cocktail
reception followed the screening.
